# Channels, shows and kits

Structure for properties that keep producing: a channel holds shows, a show holds series, a series holds episodes.

A one-off video needs no structure. Structure is for properties.

* **Channel**: brand, audience, promise, compliance rules and a knowledge graph. One per customer.
* **Show**: a recurring format with a voice, a style pack, defaults (images, clips, music, layout, CTA, public) and an optional brand lock and locked frame.
* **Series**: the unit that runs. It listens to a page, a feed or a clock and makes episodes.
* **Episode**: a video filed under channel, show and series.

Create them through the tool catalog:

```bash
curl -X POST https://api.monkeygun.com/v1/tools/create_channel -H "Authorization: Bearer $MK_KEY" \
  -d '{ "label": "YourExchange", "promise": "What moved today, with the receipts.", "audience": "Active traders", "industry": "Crypto exchange", "compliance": "Not financial advice on every episode" }'
curl -X POST https://api.monkeygun.com/v1/tools/create_show -H "Authorization: Bearer $MK_KEY" \
  -d '{ "channelId": "yourexchange", "label": "Movers Report", "promise": "The five biggest moves, in 30 seconds.", "format": "9:16", "voiceId": "onwK4e9ZLuTAKqWW03F9" }'
curl -X POST https://api.monkeygun.com/v1/tools/update_show -H "Authorization: Bearer $MK_KEY" \
  -d '{ "channelId": "yourexchange", "showId": "movers-report", "defaults": { "images": "none", "public": true, "cta": "Trade it on yourexchange.com" }, "brand": { "pack": "bold", "accent": "#C7F24C" } }'
```

There are no REST routes for channels and shows; the catalog tools are the API.

## Show defaults

| Default | Effect on every episode |
| ----------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `images`                            | `none`, `source`, `auto`, `generate` when the call does not set it |
| `clips`, `aiVideo` | AI footage when the call does not set it |
| `voiceId`, `musicAssetId`, `layout` | Voice, music bed, presenter layout                                 |
| `cta` | Appended as the last scene, verbatim |
| `public`                            | Files playable without a key                                       |
| `frame` | Locked header and footer (title, badge, logo) |
| `sfx`                               | Sound-design notes for the director                                |

Defaults add cost after a quote. See [Credits and quotes](/monkeygun/concepts/credits-and-quotes.md).

## Kits

A show kit is a show with everything preset: frame, sound, image and clip policy, voice, CTA, disclaimer, brand lock and, for authored formats, a script template with slots (hook, turn, receipts, stinger). The financial kits available today are the seven Nansen shows in [nansen-shows](/monkeygun/examples/nansen-shows.md) and the eleven tokenslop shows (Trenches Report, Rug Autopsy, Roast My Bag, Wallet Watch, Degen Lore, Fresh Slop, The Board, Rug Watch, Slop of the Day, Exchange Announcements, Customer Videos). Kits are copied onto your channel during onboarding of a Data Shows or Feed package; a self-serve kit catalog is on the roadmap.

## Series that listen

```bash
curl -X POST https://api.monkeygun.com/v1/tools/start_series -H "Authorization: Bearer $MK_KEY" \
  -d '{ "channelId": "yourexchange", "showId": "movers-report", "seriesId": "daily",
        "kind": "schedule", "schedule": "weekdays 8am", "policy": "hold", "destination": "share-link" }'
```

`kind` is `page` or `rss` (an episode only when the source changed) or `schedule` (an episode every run). Schedules are prose: `hourly`, `every 30m`, `daily 9am`, `weekdays 8am`, `weekly mon 9am`. `policy` is `hold` (review), `digest` or `autopost`. The first check is a silent baseline. Each episode costs like a video from your account; a short wallet pauses the series with a notification.

If you own the scheduling, skip series and call `from-data` with `channelId`, `showId` and `seriesId` whenever you want an episode. That is what tokenslop does.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://monkey-gun.gitbook.io/monkeygun/concepts/channels-shows-kits.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
